🛑 Beware of Scams: How to Protect Yourself When Buying a Kitten

July 6, 2025

Dear friends,

Sadly, there has been a rise in scammers pretending to be breeders, including those who steal our photos and information to trick families into sending deposits for kittens that do not exist. We deeply care about your safety, and we want to help you avoid falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.

🚨 How Do These Scams Work?

Scammers copy photos of our kittens, create fake websites or social media pages, and list “available” kittens at low prices. They often pressure you to send a deposit quickly by saying:
✅ “Many people are interested, decide now!”
✅ “We can ship the kitten today, but you must pay immediately.”
✅ “We don’t offer video calls or visits.”

Once they receive your money, they disappear, leaving families heartbroken and out of pocket.

🔎 How to Spot a Scam

âś… How We Protect You at Luxury Kittens USA

  • We never refuse a live video call — you can meet us and your kitten virtually anytime, even before jumping on our Waiting list.
  • All our kittens are born and raised in Greer, South Carolina. We do not sell kittens from other states or other breeders. Also, on the video call it will be only me)))) Alena! I am the only founder and CEO, who breeds, markets, takes care of all the logistics etc.
  • We only work with clients on our official waiting list. We do not pressure you if you’re not ready — you’ll always have time to decide. We do ask you to decide within 3 days after the available kitten has been offered, to respect all of our clients on the waiting list.
  • Our cattery is registered with TICA (The International Cat Association) under my name, Alena, as LUX Paw Cattery with a good standing, and we hold a business license in South Carolina.
  • Our reservation process includes clear contracts and steps outlined.

🛡️ How to Stay Safe

✅ Always verify the breeder’s identity by requesting a live video call.
✅ Double-check the breeder’s website and social media pages — look for consistent contact details, professional photos, and clear business information. Check any personal pages , which i do have )))
✅ Contact official registries like TICA to confirm the breeder’s registration.
âś… Never send money to anyone who refuses to prove who they are or show you the kitten live. I do not send any documentations in messages to any one due to security reasons, so you must do your OWN homework.

📖 Real Stories: Why It’s Important to Protect Yourself

Over the years, I’ve received many phone calls from worried families who were almost scammed — or sadly, already lost money — to people pretending to be us.

🔹 Several times, families from Florida have contacted me saying someone was using our photos and name to sell kittens. These scammers collected deposits and told the buyers to pick up their kitten at a fake address. When the buyers arrived, no one was there, and afterward, the scammers stopped responding completely. In many cases, victims couldn’t get their money back because the scammers made everything look legitimate enough that banks wouldn’t reverse the transaction.

🔹 Just recently, a woman from Florida called me, asking if I had taken down a post about a kitten she was planning to buy. She thought the kitten was ours, but I explained that I only raise kittens in Greer, South Carolina, and I don’t have any kittens available anywhere else. She was shocked to find out she had almost driven hours to meet someone at a random location — and she had already sent a deposit. I strongly advised her not to go, as it was not only a scam but also potentially dangerous.

These stories happen more often than people realize. I’ve seen many fake groups and pages on Facebook and Instagram that steal our photos, logos, and information — even creating fake followers — to look convincing and trick people into sending deposits.

❤️ How to Stay Safe with Us

To protect yourself:
✔️ Always speak directly with me — Alena, the owner of Luxury Kittens USA.
✔️ Request a live video call (FaceTime or other) if you have any doubts. I’m happy to show myself and the kittens in a quick call so you know you’re dealing with the real breeder.
✔️ Please note: if you’re not on our official waiting list, I can only spend a few minutes on a call due to time limitations. However, for families on our waiting list, I’m glad to offer longer video chats or even in-person visits once you’re ready to choose your kitten.

âś… Verifying Reviews & the Importance of FaceTime

On our official Instagram account, you’ll find a folder labeled “Reviews” or “Previous Customers” (the name may change from time to time), where you can see posts and tags from families who have purchased kittens from us. You’re welcome to follow these tags and contact past buyers directly to ask about their experience.

While this can be a helpful way to gain reassurance, please remember that scammers can also copy our posts and reviews, creating fake profiles to mimic our real customers. They often duplicate entire Instagram pages, including reviews, to appear legitimate.

That’s why the most reliable way to confirm you’re speaking with us is to schedule a FaceTime call with me, Alena. During the call, I’ll be happy to show myself, our cattery, and our kittens, so you can feel completely confident you’re dealing with the real Luxury Kittens USA.

FaceTime calls can usually be arranged within a few days of your request, depending on my availability. As a busy mom of three boys with a household and kittens to care for, I kindly ask for your patience, but I will always make time to ensure you feel secure before moving forward.
